Cameras for the Summer

Best Ultra Compact Digital Cameras of PMA 2009
From: Infosyncworld.com

Canon PowerShot SD780 IS Resembling a thin stack of credit cards, the Canon PowerShot SD780 IS was easily one of the most well-rounded Ultra Compacts we came across. First off, its demure style and metallic color themes will help the camera sell. However, the PowerShot SD780 IS rocked a fair amount of advanced features and allowed us to shoot in Manual mode, while many other compacts in this price range will only take you halfway. We love Canon's intuitive menus, and the fact that the company managed to fit a shutter button zoom toggle control. The PowerShot SD780 IS has a 12-megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor, so let's see what it can do.

Nikon Coolpix S230 (I like)
It's small, it's sexy, and wait a minute, where did all the buttons go? The Nikon Coolpix
S230 flaunts a 3-inch touch-screen LCD that engulfs the entire back of the camera. We found the Coolpix S230's touch-screen interface to perform better than the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T900's, even with our large adult fingers. So, the Coolpix S230 will not only sell because it's tiny and doused in a coat of gloss, but that touch-screen interface will seal the deal. We were hooked. The 10-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CCD might pose as the camera's only retail impedance when compared to other 12-megapixel compacts in its class, so let's see if image quality will change that. The Canon PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera is a 10.0-Megapixel powerhouse incorporating a CMOS image sensor and 1080p Full HD Movie mode, both first-in-class features for a PowerShot camera, resulting in superb image quality and enhanced flexibility. Still images can be captured easily with a 20x wide-angle Optical Zoom lens (equivalent to 28-560 mm) with Optical Image Stabilization and a 2.8-inch vari-angle wide-format LCD for great on-camera viewing and editing. What's more, this camera offers a full range of shooting and recording modes, including RAW + JPEG for ultimate creative control. While the camera is in Movie Mode, the PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera can easily play back video and view photos on an HDTV, via a built-in HDMI connector. With all these great features and now Full HD Movie Mode, the PowerShot SX1 IS Digital Camera is the perfect complement to a DSLR. Read More...

DSLRs

Nikon D5000 - The Nikon D5000 is Nikon’s entry level DSLR that is basically a baby D90. Nikon cameras feel great in your hands and give the users a sense of confidence that the camera has been solidly designed and can to do what is demanded of it (and more). The articulating LCD screen is something that most users will enjoy because it will help to frame their shots better in harder to shoot situations. That means that while you’re at the baseball game and the guy in front of you is blocking your view that you’ll be able to raise the camera above his head, flip out the LCD, and snap your photos with confidence.
